What is being celebrated?
Saint Matthew commemorates the Conquest of Cuenca by Alfonso VIII in 1177. It is one of the city's biggest festivals, and its most recognizable event is the roped heifers: cattle held by a long rope that run through the streets of the historic center for four days, with enormous popular participation.
